Creating a Credit Union Website During a Merger

When two credit unions merged to form Self Reliance Financial Federal Credit Union (SRFFCU), the resulting credit union needed a new website to centralize its services and reflect its new identity. SRFFCU needed a website developer in Philadelphia that could meet the deadlines of its merger timeline, understand the sensitivities of a financial institution, and simplify the complexities of a new identity with a long-standing legacy. They turned to Forge Apollo.

The Challenge

Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union (UKRFCU) merged with Self Reliance New York Federal Credit Union (SRNYFCU) to form SRFFCU. This led to the need for a new website, but the project came with many challenges.

Timing

Following the legal merger in October 2025, the Operational Merger took place on July 1st. This is when the new website needed to be live. However, the full rollout of the new banking platform wouldn’t come until September 2026. This meant that the website needed to accurately reflect SRFFCU’s current services as of July 1st and direct members to the accurate legacy banking portal until the rollout of the new platform in September.

Industry-Specific Needs

As a credit union, SRFFCU had some needs that other brands may not face, such as meeting security and accessibility standards. They needed a partner who could deliver on those unique needs.

Merging Two Existing Websites and Service Offerings

SRFFCU isn’t simply a new brand–it’s the merging of two long-standing credit unions. The new website not only needed to reflect a merged brand identity and service offering, but it also needed to include proper redirection from two pre-existing websites.

Bringing a New Identity to Life

SRFFCU already had branding standards, but they needed a website designer to bring this identity to life with a modern, user-friendly design.

The Solution

Forge Apollo created a website that met all of SRFFCU’s complex needs, including:

Thorough Planning

In our first phase, we planned which pages the SRFFCU website would need to have to reflect its new suite of services. When deploying the website, we implemented site-wide redirects to ensure anyone trying to visit the old sites lands on the new one.

Designing for User Experience & Brand Identity

Then, we created a design that reflected the new brand identity while directing users to relevant information and calls to action.

We designed the navigation especially to make it easy to access crucial information like the routing number and merger updates, join or log in to online banking, and find information about desired services.

Accessibility Considerations

Our design and development also accounted for accessibility standards, including meeting color contrast requirements for text. We also included an accessibility panel that users can use to further customize the site for their unique needs.

Copywriting & SEO

We crafted the website copy to accurately present SRFFCU’s new offerings and identity while encouraging users to take the desired actions. Both copy and development included SEO best practices to build the new domain’s visibility in search and AI engines.

Developing for Commonly Updated Rates

Several pieces of information, such as interest rates, effective dates, and fees, update frequently. To ensure consistency across the website, we implemented a single central backend input for this information that automatically updates wherever it appears.

Developing for Security

We implemented several advanced security measures on the website to protect it to industry standards.

Flexibility

Developing a website during an active merger process required flexibility, as information regarding services offered, portal links, and disclosures was constantly changing. Our team pivoted with whatever new information or requirements the SRFFCU team presented.

The Impact

The SRFFCU website launched on time, with plans to provide ongoing support for necessary updates throughout the merger process. The credit union now has a user-friendly online platform that meets all of its needs.
