Moving a Blog from HubSpot to WordPress

SoftLite Windows is a replacement window and door manufacturer that serves distributors throughout the US. Part of their organic marketing strategy involves attracting homeowners to their website and funneling those leads to their distributors. SofLite launched a blog to help with these efforts but hosted it on HubSpot rather than their WordPress website. This put the blog on a subdomain, which can hinder organic traffic for a use case like this. In an effort to increase SoftLite’s organic blog traffic, Forge Apollo moved the blog from HubSpot to WordPress so it could live on the same domain as their other website content. As a result of these efforts, in the year after moving the blog, it achieved a 27% increase in traffic.

Forge Apollo’s Strategy For Success

While subdomains aren’t necessarily bad for SEO, they’re not ideal for an application like a blog. Google often treats subdomains as a separate entity from the main site. This is not ideal for blogs because they lose out on the authority (and other helpful SEO signals) from the primary site.

So, our strategy was to move the content from the HubSpot subdomain (blog.soft-lite.com) to the primary domain (soft-lite.com/blog).

Moving the Content

Forge Apollo’s team moved each individual blog post from HubSpot’s platform to the blog on SoftLite’s WordPress website. This included moving written content, images, and metadata.

Setting Up Redirects

While we did replace internal links with the links for the new blogs, we also set up redirects to ensure a positive user experience if any links were missed.

 

The Results – 27% Traffic Increase

Comparing year-over-year data, the number of views on SoftLite’s blog increased by 27%, from 18,069 views from September 2021 to October 2022 to 22,963 views in the following year.
