4 Ways to Increase Open Rate

Nothing is more frustrating than spending hours crafting beautiful and informative emails, only for them to sit in your customer’s inbox unopened. That’s why we’ve compiled these four tips to help increase your open rate now.

Why Email Marketing

The benefits of email marketing are sure to grow. According to HubSpot, there are 3.9 billion daily email users. More importantly, however, is email marketing’s potential ROI; $38 for every $1 spent.

1. Segment Customer Lists

Nothing kills your open rate like an unwieldy list of customers. Instead of blasting out general emails to everyone in your database, take the time to create lists customized to specific customer groups. Some typical segment applications include geography, technical abilities, product interest, and economic status.

2. Use Personalization

Now that you’ve segmented your lists, it’s time to put them to immediate use. According to Campaign Monitor, personalized email subject lines have a 26% higher chance of being opened! So, take every opportunity to collect relevant information on your forms that allow you to get to know your customers. Consider using progressive form fills, which swap out questions a customer has already answered.

Use a piece of your customer’s information somewhere in the subject or preview line. This could be their name, a product they’re interested in, or their company. Choose the personalization that makes the most sense for your business. In the body of the email, continue to utilize this personalization. Use information like your customer’s geographic location, interests, or age to shape your email’s content and design.

3. Clean or Scrub Customer Lists

Don’t waste money or time hosting useless customer information on your CRM. Regularly clean your lists, removing emails with a hard bounce, duplicate emails, and any email address that seems overly spammy or incorrect. You can also send a “last chance” email to unengaged emails asking if they’d like to continue receiving messages. If they reengage, keep them!

4. Utilize A/B Testing

You never know what will work until you try it! That’s where A/B testing comes in handy. Don’t be afraid to test different landing pages, subject lines, or content to see which tactics work best for your business.
