Is Interactive Content the Future of Digital Marketing?

Interactive content is any form of interaction from the viewer. This includes calculators, quizzes, videos, pop ups, and more. The goal is to stand out among the competition, increase engagement, and promote genuine connections between the brand and the consumer.

Benefits of Interactive Content?

If you’re wondering whether interactive content is worth the effort, take a look at these very compelling statistics.

5 Simple But Effective Interactive Content Ideas

If you’re ready to take the plunge yourself, here are five interactive content campaigns to strengthen your content strategy and increase brand awareness.

Surveys and Polls

Surveys and polls are a great way to encourage engagement and gather the information needed to inspire future content. Fun and whimsical polls, like “would you rather” are perfect for social media because they are highly engaging, inspire social shares, and provide data on which products and services are working—looking for more specific feedback? Send longer-form surveys to your email lists. Be sure to segment carefully and thoroughly personalize these longer-form surveys. Rewards, store credit, or coupons as incentives also never hurt.

Interactive Videos

One of our favorite ways to interact with an audience is through video. It is eye-catching and shareable, but did you know that you can further increase engagement by making it interactive? For example, you may know companies can decrease customer service calls and increase brand authority with a product demonstration video. But imagine how much more effective it would be if there were appropriate in-video popups with links to additional educational content. This type of interaction helps delight subscribers or customers because it anticipates and meets their needs. Our favorite video interaction tool is currently Vidyard. Their platform not only provides excellent interaction tools and embed options it also tracks and analyzes relevant KPIs.

Quizzes

Who doesn’t love a good quiz? Okay, we’re sure someone out there doesn’t, but the evidence overwhelmingly supports the idea that many people enjoy quizzes. According to Steven Meyers’ (Ph.D.) interview on Huffpost, quizzes allow people to answer, what he believes to be, the three big questions people use for self-identity: Who am I? Who do others think I am? Humans love to learn about themselves and generally crave connection with others. Quizzes fill both those buckets nicely. They highlight the best parts of a person, boosting their self-confidence, so it’s not surprising that they’d want to share their results with friends and family. So, get to know your audience, find out what makes them tick, and then create a quiz that they won’t be able to resist.

User Experience (UX)

When designing a website, user experience is crucial, and you don’t necessarily need a coding background to exercise the basic components of an interactive user experience. Some common interactive elements that you may not have thought of include call-to-action buttons, infographics, and gifs! Wondering how to make a gif? We love using a variety of tools, but Canva is one of the easiest to use. It offers templates and a wide range of stickers and animations to get you started. As a bonus, the better your user experience, the better your SEO!

Run a Contest

When putting together a contest, it’s essential to consider two things.

  1.  What does your ideal audience want? What would entice them to interact?
  2. Second, how can you showcase your brand identity?

Contests are fun and can generate engagement. However, without a strategy and a strong representation of your brand, the excitement will most likely be short-lived. So, take some time to consider all the contest components, including, but not limited to, videos, images, copy, and hashtags. This research will help set the foundation for success. Two popular and easy to reproduce social media contests include tag-a-friend and photo captioning competitions.
